I am currently working on a sequel to my debut novel, The Viking’s Defiant Bride. Writing that first story was hard work but also great fun. From the feedback I’ve received, it seems many of you enjoyed it too. So thanks for that. Your comments were much appreciated. Several of you asked, ‘When is the sequel coming out?’ I still don’t know the answer to that, but I’m working on it.
The Dark Ages definitely provide fertile ground for the writer. In this book, King Alfred’s long struggle against Guthrum is over; the Danelaw has been established. However, a stable peace is far from assured and Viking raids continue to plague the coastal areas as men like Rollo carve out their reputations. It is against this background that my story is set. This time it concerns Wulfrum’s son, Wulfgar, now a warrior in his own right. Haunted by the past, he has turned his back on all he once knew and pursues the life of an adventurer. Over the years his wealth and his reputation have grown. He is now better known as the Sea Wolf.
The story so far...
Wulfgar leads a band of warriors whose services are much in demand. They are on their way to join Rollo when their ship is damaged in a storm, and puts into a small bay off the Anglian coast. They need to carry out urgent repairs and this looks like a perfect haven. However, it turns out to be anything but. For a start there is Lord Ingvar’s war band who make it clear that the newcomers are not welcome. Then there is Arwen, the beautiful and wealthy widow, on whom Ingvar has designs. Having escaped one forced marriage she is not about to embark on another. Striving to maintain her independence and protect her young son she feels increasing isolated and under threat. When she agrees to help Wulfgar he is grateful and, on learning of her predicament, even sympathetic. Unfortunately, he won’t be around long enough to become involved, and anyway it’s none of his business. However, Arwen, soon realises that he is the one person who could help her.
